PINOCCHIO AT THE OPERA IN LAUSANNE

Great public success for the opera Pinocchio composed by Gloria Bruni and performed for the first time in French at the Opéra of Lausanne in Switzerland from 31-3-2023 to 9-4-2023.

“Pinocchio” was developed by Gloria Bruni as an opera together with Ursel Scheffler, a well-known children’s author who wrote the original libretto in German.

For the occasion, the libretto was translated into French by Mathias Constantin and Antoine Schneider for the sparkling and lively staging by Cédric Dorier and the musical direction by François López-Ferrer, who masterfully conducted the ‘Sinfonietta de Lausanne’ orchestra.

Performed for the first time in 2008 in Hamburg, at the Laeiszhalle, it subsequently participated in the Eutin Summer Festival, in the former residence of the prince bishops of Lübeck.

In 2013 the opera, sponsored by the Carlo Collodi Foundation, was produced by the Teatro San Carlo in Naples with an Italian libretto by Lauro Ferrarini, while in 2015 “Pinocchio” was performed at the Teatro Regio in Parma and later in a shortened version at the Italian Cultural Institute in London during the Italian Language Week in the World, under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.

In 2016 ‘Pinocchio’ was performed again in Hamburg with a new staging, in 2021 in Russian at the Bolshoi Theatre in Minsk, Belarus.

The opera, inspired by the celebrated fairy tale by Carlo Collodi, is aimed at “children of all ages” with the aim of bringing young spectators closer to listening to opera music in a playful way and to propose to adult audiences the theme of the universal sentiments of the famous fable.

The score, tonal and playful at the beginning to follow the narrative path of the story becomes increasingly rich and complex as the opera progresses, rising in a continuous crescendo until the action dissolves into a festive and choral atmosphere.

The Spanish-language premiere will take place in Chile at the Teatro del Lago, Frutillar, and is scheduled for November 2023.
